Thanksgiving in the city

Thursday the 22nd of November is thanksgiving, this is a very significant holiday in the United States. I asked my friend's husband what it was about and he said it started as a Native American Indian custom in which they invited white settlers to celebrate with them and 'give thanks' for the land and community. It was also a way of welcoming the white settlers into the community. History has it that after that thanksgiving the white settlers carried out a surprise attack on the natives killing many of them and taking over their land.
My thought was ''and look what happened to them after that party!'' Anyway, it continues to be celebrated in the United States as a way of 'giving thanks' in keeping with Native American Indian tradition.
I am celebrating the thanksgiving with my cousin and uncle in New York city. Usually turkey is the bird of choice, with stuffing and a variety of traditional American cuisine. We'll be dinning out at a nice restaurant (Jozi style). I am certain it'll be lovely, this is the big apple with millions of restaurants. A diner's haven.
Happy thanksgiving everyone!!
christmas is already in the air. Sometime in the coming week the christmas lights will be turned on in times square. A major New York event. I'll miss that unfortunately.

Happy Turkeyday Ijeoma! Sounds like you're having a great time, and hope you get a white Christmas (as long as the heating works).
