Senator Barrack Obama was announced as the 44th president of the United States of America a few minutes ago and this news affected me so profoundly. It is indeed a proud day for black people all over the world but even more significant to the African-American, Hispanic, Asian and Native American Indians.
What a night!! What a day!! It is all so overwhelming. I watched the Reverend Jessie Jackson and Oprah Winfrey totally overwhelmed by emotions.
People turned out in large numbers to cast their votes, old and young. Some voting for the first time or after a long while. There was no shouting, thuggery or intimidation as is the usual practice in Africa (Nigeria and Zimbabwe for instance). I am proud of the citizens of the United States of America.
God bless the 44th President of the USA!!
